Frequently Asked Questions
How does Groupit work?
Groupit is the easiest way to organize a group gift online. Set up your gift in seconds in 3 easy steps:
- Create Your Gift: Give us some basic information about the gift, the recipient and the total amount you’re trying to raise. Then choose to use either your PayPal or WePay account to collect the funds. If you don't have a PayPal or WePay account, we'll help you set one up.
- Invite your Friends: Inviting your friends and family to your Groupit page is easy. Just enter their email addresses and we’ll take care of the rest! We also give you a public Groupit link so you can post it on your blog, IM it to a friend or share it on Facebook.
- Use the Funds: The last step is the most fun – using the funds to buy and give your gift. Because all contributions go directly to your PayPal or WePay account, you can access and use them at any time. No more cashing checks, keeping track of cash or tracking down people that owe you money. When you’re ready to buy your gift, simply close your Groupit, withdraw the money from PayPal or WePay and go buy the gift!
How much does Groupit cost?
At Groupit.com, we don't charge organizers or users anything to give amazing gifts. Groupit partners with PayPal and WePay to make it easy to accept credit cards and and both PayPal and WePay charge small fees (between 2-4%) to cover processing costs. Get more information about PayPal fees or WePay fees.
What if we don’t reach the goal set for our Groupit?
If you don’t reach your goal, you can choose to extend the deadline, change the goal, invite more contributors or close your Groupit. All of the funds you have raised to date are immediately deposited into your PayPal account as soon as they are contributed so you always have immediate access to the funds.
What if I don’t want to set a goal? I’d just like to see how much we can raise and make a purchase decision based on the total?
Setting a goal is not required for your Groupit. If you prefer to leave it open ended, uncheck the “set a goal” box on your edit page and we’ll just display the total raised on your Groupit page.
How do I get the money raised on my Groupit?
As soon as someone contributes money, the funds are immediately deposited into your personal PayPal or WePay account. You can access and withdraw those funds at any time like you would any PayPal or WePay balance. We'll send you instructions once you've collected some funds.
Why do I have to create an account with Groupit?
If you are an organizer of a Groupit, we require you to create an account so you can securely manage your Groupit page. You will create a username (your email address) and a password so that you can securely access the site in the future. This also helps us provide great service when we can respond back to you quickly for any customer service questions you may have.
Do I need to create a Groupit account to contribute to a Groupit?
No special account is required. Contributing to a Groupit is just like buying anything online. Just enter the amount you'd like to contribute and your credit card information. Its that easy!
How do I hide the list of contributors?
Yes. All you do is check the “Hide Contributor List” box and you’re set.
Will I be able to know who contributed and how much?
Yes. As the Groupit organizer, you will have a detailed list of all of the contributors, their contributions, and their email addresses. This is all contained on your My Groupits page and makes it convenient to add names to a card or for writing thank you cards.
Should I include tax/shipping costs in the Groupit item price I list?
Since you receive all the Groupit funds directly through your PayPal account, you should set your Groupit goal for the total amount you’d like to raise plus any fees that might be deducted by PayPal or WePay. Occasionally organizers will forget to include the shipping and tax for a shared gift and have to pay for that cost themselves. Setting a higher goal to include these costs make things easy and straightforward for your group.
Is the site secure? I always worry about using my credit card on sites I’m not familiar with.

All of your payments are managed by either PayPal or WePay – both are companies that uses the same kind of industry-leading security on our forms.
