Why iPads Make Great Group Gifts
By Jonathan Beekman Nov. 3, 2011
iPads make great group gifts. Although they can be a little pricy, they're expensive enough to let 10-15 people get in on the action by contributing around $50 each. I've personally used iPads as gifts to great effect and in this post I'll talk about a few ways to make that iPad you bought with your friends even more meaningful for the person getting the gift.
Idea #1 - Change the lock screen image to one of your group.
So I wrote a blog post yesterday about the first Groupit we did for my friend Alex. When we pulled the iPad out of the box and turned it on, he saw this photo of everyone who had contributed:http://bit.ly/t1QEfR Not only is this a great way to make the gift more meaningful, but it also is a subtle thank you to everyone who helped chip in to buy as a group.
Idea #2 - Upload photos or videos for a slideshow
This is a variation of idea #1 above. Before you gift the iPad, ask your contributors to send you their favorite photos of them with the recipient. Then upload them to the iPad and enable the digital picture frame setting. The photos you upload will play as a slideshow for the recipient to enjoy. One of Groupit's many new features is the ability for your invitees to record videos for the recipient. Consider downloading these and including them with the photos so the recipient can watch all the great messages and wishes people have left as well.
Idea #3 - Get a signed case
Getting a case for the new iPad is usually a good idea. Depending on the kind of case you buy, you can have all the contributors sign the case with a silver sharpie and write a note to the recipient. Since not everyone wants to carry around an iPad case that looks like its been covered in graffiti, you may also want to consider signing the inside of the case. That way the messages stay personal for only the recipient.
Hope these ideas get you on your way! And as always, if you have any questions, suggestions or comments when using Groupit.com, please let me know at jon@groupit.com.
Happy gifting,
Jon
